Democrats and the City of Atlanta are pushing back against the takeover, noting that federal regulations would likely block the move.
A $400 million development unveiled March 4 will bring a new mixed-use skyscraper and “luxury” housing tower to Buckhead’s Peachtree Road by 2022. The development will go up on what is now a 3-acre parking lot along Ga. 400 and the Buckhead MARTA Station. The building will contain 560,000 square feet of space and around 60 luxury condominiums. The City of Atlanta Council has passed Resolution No. 18-R-3783 adopting a plan to transition the City of Atlanta to 100 percent clean energy by 2035. The city’s plan is designed to create local jobs, reduce electricity bills, provide public health savings, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase gross regional product. The city is committed to making the investment in this goal for its municipal operations and encourages the local community to join in helping Atlanta achieve a 100 percent clean energy future, according to a media statement.
