The second-annual Virginia Highland Porchfest and Rock n Run will bring more than 20,000 residents and visitors together to enjoy music and community on Saturday, May 14, 2022.
The event is presented by White Claw, 14 Hands, Tequila Herradura, and Stella Artois, organized by the Virginia Highland District Association (VHDA), and supported by additional business and resident sponsors.
Over fifty-five bands will play on more than fifty porches from Virginia Avenue to Drewry Street, between North Highland Avenue and Ponce de Leon Place. Bands will play from 11 am to 7 pm, playing a large variety of genres for this free-to-attend, family-friendly event.
Rock n Run
The Rock n Run will take place just before the music, from 9 am to 10 am. Runners are
encouraged to dress up as their favorite musicians or bands and run the perimeter where Porchfest will take place. This is a ticketed, un-timed run that includes a Porchfest water bottle for participation. Kids under 12 can run for free.
This year, the Virginia Highland District Association is raising the bar by bringing new features to the event and increasing safety initiatives. One of the newer features of the event is a VIP area, that will feature a catered lunch with live music, along with a drink station that only VIP ticket holders can access.
Kid’s Corner
The event will also include a Kid’s Corner, where there will be a bounce house, face painting, coloring, and other yard games to enjoy. On Barnett Street, there will be a number of food trucks and vendors, along with local artisanal vendors selling art and jewelry.
To enhance the safety of the event, Barnett Street will be closed to motor vehicles, allowing for heavy foot traffic.
This community fundraising event supports the mission of VHDA to lift foot traffic and create awareness for the Virginia Highland business district. “We loved the model that Oakhurst showed us last year and look forward to seeing the community getting outdoors on a wonderful spring day,” said VHDA’s executive director, Katie Voelpel.
